PRESENTATION OF THE BAUWERKE EXCELLENCE AWARD 2026 IN BERLIN
As part of a ceremonial event marking the 70th anniversary of the Fördergemeinschaft Bauwesen, on June 17th, 2026 the BauWerke Excellence Award was presented for the sixth time. The award regularly recognizes the best Bachelor’s theses in the Department of Architecture at BHT, selected by a distinguished jury for their outstanding design quality, technical and structural excellence, as well as their professional presentation and communication.
In the presence of approximately 100 invited guests, Architect Fritz Breitenthaler, Managing Partner of BauWerke GmbH, presented the first prize at the historic villa in Berlin’s Olympic Park to the student team of Sinan-Can Bozkurt and Hafsa Yildiz for their project “RBW RUDOLFBAND WEST.” The project skillfully addresses the themes of urban transformation and infrastructural urban spaces, demonstrating how innovative planning approaches, design excellence, and sustainable development can be successfully integrated.
The second prize was awarded to the student team of Valerie Fuß, Javier Ehrenfeld, and Long Duc Nguyen for their project “CYCLUS,” a remarkable exploration of the principles of the circular economy and the sustainable transformation of the built environment.
A commendation award was presented to student Carl Friedrich Runck for his project “LEHRBAUHOF SCHLOSS NÖTHNITZ,” which offers an exemplary reinterpretation of the relationship between education, craftsmanship, heritage conservation, and sustainable construction.
A further commendation award was granted to the student team of Louis Strzebkowski and Constantin Gravert for their project “GLEISWERK,” which focuses on the intelligent transformation of existing infrastructure and urban structures.
During the award ceremony, Architect Breitenthaler emphasized the purpose of the foundation behind the award: to recognize and promote outstanding achievements in academic work by students.
Prof. Kai Kummert, Chairman of the Jury, highlighted the consistently high quality of the submitted projects. He also noted that the BauWerke Excellence Award has become an established component of talent development at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and Technology (BHT).
The BauWerke Excellence Award was established in 2019 by BauWerke GmbH and is jointly supported by Fördergemeinschaft Bauwesen e.V. and the Association of German Master Builders (BDB – Bund Deutscher Baumeister).
