Urban Design Competition: Luisenblock Ost II
Development of a vibrant, mixed-use urban district serving as a link between the parliamentary and government quarter and Berlin’s central district (Mitte). The design combines the requirements of the German Bundestag with high-quality residential living, an office building for the trade union ver.di, public open spaces, and an open, urban atmosphere.
A spacious waterfront promenade, active ground-floor zones, new urban squares, and a dense network of pedestrian and cycle paths create attractive public spaces and strengthen the connection to the River Spree. The district’s clear layout fosters a balanced mix of uses. Climate-resilient open spaces, the “sponge city” principle, and energy-efficient buildings form the foundation for a sustainable, future-proof urban district.
