BauWerke Excellence Prize as part of the 2nd Berlin Builders’ Day

As one of the highlights of the 2nd Berlin Builders’ Day, one of the most high-class specialist events in the construction industry in Berlin, this year’s awarding of the BauWerke Excellence Prize took place in a celebratory setting in the historic ambience of the Hubertusbad Berlin-Lichtenberg on November 28, 2023.

Two teams of architecture students from the Berlin University of Technology (BHT) were honored for their outstanding achievements in their bachelor’s theses.

The first prize went to Ms. Ida Duge and Ms. Lara Marquardt for their extraordinary joint project. Under the motto “The socially and climate-friendly conversion of the GDR residential high-rise GT18/21 in Berlin Fennpfuhl”, both award winners presented a visionary plan that focuses on the importance of the circular economy and CO²-neutral construction.

Ms. Josephine Küppers and Ms. Lilly Strauß-Lindner won the second prize. They dedicated their outstanding contribution to the topic of “meditation center, retreat, guest house, Berlin-Westend” and developed a remarkable architectural vision.

The award ceremony, worth 3,750 euros annually, took place in the presence of our managing director, Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Fritz Breitenthaler, the board of directors of the Fördergemeinschaft Bauwesen e.V. and the support association of the BDB regional association Berlin-Brandenburg as well as the Senator for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment, Mrs. Manja Schreiner, and leading representatives of the Berlin construction and real estate industry.

“We want to encourage top performance – both in the interests of the students and to overcome our social challenges in combination with the sustainable strengthening of Berlin as a location for architecture, construction and higher education,” says Fritz Breitenthaler, initiator of the BauWerke Excellence Prize.

The Berlin Builders’ Day serves as an important platform for all players in the industry and helps to advance relevant topics such as climate friendliness, circular economy, healthy building products and CO²-neutral construction and operation. 130 builders, architects, engineers, construction companies and numerous interested parties discussed solutions to the pressing challenges in the construction industry with politicians, business people and students.

The venue changes every year in order to offer a variety of perspectives and experiences.

We would like to thank all organizers, participants, speakers, exhibitors and sponsors for their participation as well as BIM Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH for making the unique location available.
